What is the Texas Compassionate Use Program?
The Texas Compassionate Use Program (TCUP) is the state's medical cannabis program. Texas does not issue a physical medical marijuana patient card. Instead, a qualified physician determines whether a patient meets the current program requirements and, when clinically appropriate, enters a prescription into the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas (CURT).
How does a patient get started?
- Check the current patient and condition requirements with the [Texas Department of Public Safety](https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/compassionate-use-program).
- Meet with a Texas-licensed physician registered with CURT for an individual medical evaluation.
- If the physician determines a prescription is appropriate, the physician enters it into CURT. An appointment does not guarantee a prescription.
- Ask a licensed Texas dispensing organization how it verifies a CURT prescription and matching identification before obtaining a product.
What should I prepare for the appointment?
Bring your identification, relevant medical history, a current medication list, and questions about potential benefits and risks. Your physician may ask for additional records and will make the clinical decision. Jiffy Doctor cannot promise eligibility, approval, or a particular treatment.
Where can I find current rules?
Program requirements, qualifying conditions, physicians, and licensed dispensing organizations can change. Consult the [Texas Department of Public Safety's Compassionate Use Program](https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/compassionate-use-program) for the latest official guidance.
